Spoilers for the entirety of Mr. & Mrs. Smith on Prime Video. If you haven't watched the finale, turn back now!

The entire first season of Mrs. & Mrs. Smith, starring Donald Glover and Maya Erskine as John and Jane Smith—fake married spies—is now streaming on Prime Video.

The premise is much different than the original 2005 film of the same name, which featured Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. Instead, in this iteration, John and Jane work together (until the season finale, which hews more closely to the plot of the movie). "It has a very hopeful and positive outlook on marriage," star Erskine tells the New York Times. "This show is saying: Life is really hard, and it’s really nice to have someone to go through it with. We’re rooting for these two characters to be those people for each other, because they’re just really lonely people who need to find their person to get through life with."

If you've already binge-watched the entire thing, you may be wondering: Is Mr. & Mrs. Smith coming back for a season two? Because (and spoiler warning again!) the season finale of the show ends on a major cliffhanger—we don't know if John and Jane (er, Michael and Alana) are alive. After the duo has failed three missions, another Mr. and Mrs. Smith (played by Parker Posey and Wagner Moura) are sent to kill them, and as the episode ends, John is losing consciousness from injuries and Jane has just one bullet left in her gun to kill Other Jane.

In an interview with showrunner Francesca Sloane, she told The Hollywood Reporter, "while you’re in the muck of making something this difficult, you really don’t even let yourself fantasize about the future. It just about trying to get to the end. But now that we’ve all done it, it’s sort of like childbirth. I love the baby! So, there are talks of season two and we have some really cool ideas for it — I’m collaborating with Donald and Taofik Kolade, who wrote on Atlanta with us. He’s incredible and I think he’d be a great addition in terms of voice… if we do go forward with it. We’ll see."

In a March 2024 interview in Vanity Fair, Erksine said, "I can’t say anything. I know things. I know where it goes, but it would be such a disservice. Oh God, I hate holding things, and I want to tell you everything that I can. I really want to, but just know, I think it’s very exciting where it will lead."

In May 2024, Prime Video officially renewed Mr. & Mrs. Smith for a second season, but it's unclear if Erksine and Glover will be reprising their roles. After the show earned 16 Emmy nominations, Amazon MGM Studios Head Of Television Vernon Sanders, told Deadline that writers are "hard at work" on season two. On whether and not Erksine and Glover will be back, Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon MGM Studios dodged the question, saying, "I think audiences will get everything they want when they come back."

“We’re just trying to make the best version of season 2 possible,” Sloane told Crew Call, “That’s why we’re being so coy about it.”

We'll update this as soon as we learn more about Mr. & Mrs. Smith season 2.
