Ms. Lauryn Hill Serenades Classmates With Classics At High School Reunion

Ms. Lauryn Hill lived her second childhood while serenading her former classmates with a medley of hits during her high school reunion.

Hill, who attended Columbia High School in Maplewood, Nj. prior to her rise to stardom, recently returned to the school to celebrate with her fellow alums, taking the time to give an impromptu performance in commemoration of the occasion.

Running through cuts like the Fugees’ 1996 single, “Ready or Not,” which saw her switching the lyrics in a show of homage to her alma mater, as well as her emotive Miseducation of Lauryn Hill ballad, “Ex-Factor,” Ms. Lauryn Hill basked in the moment, resulting in a carefree performance that rivals some of her concerts.

“People traveled from out of state to love up on their village,” one of Hill’s former classmates wrote of the reunion on social media. “It was simply amazing. Still speechless from @mslaurynhill giving us an impromptu performance. This reunion was SO good for the soul,” they added.

Footage of Hill’s medley comes weeks after the singer addressed the cancellation of her and the Fugees’ upcoming U.S. tour dates, which the Grammy Award winner attributes to low ticket sales spurred by a negative “narrative” formed and spread by “the media.”

“Last year, I faced an injury that necessitated the rescheduling of some of my shows,” Hill wrote, referencing her damaged vocal cords. “Regrettably, some media outlet’s penchant for sensationalism and clickbait headlines have seemingly created a narrative that has affected ticket sales for the North American portion of the tour.”

The songstress continued, adding, “The trust and faith I have in my intentions and my commitment to my art seem to have been overshadowed by this unfortunate portrayal.”

However, Hill’s reasoning didn’t sit well with everyone, most noticeably Fugees groupmate Pras, who lashed out at Hill in a song titled “Bar Mitzvah” released in the wake of the nixed tour dates.
