MTV Renews ‘Real World,’ Launches Cooking Competition, Family Drama, More
Viacom’s MTV said it would launch a cooking competition program, a new family drama and three other new series as part of its coming programming slate.
In “Snack Off,” which debuts July 10, a group of amateur chefs battle in a competition that calls for recipes that use mundane munchies. Eddie Huang hosts the half-hour show, which will give the winners a cash prize and the inclusion of their recipe in a cookbook. A panel of judges includes supermodel Chrissy Teigen, master chef Jason Quinn and comedian Yassir Lester.
The drama, “Finding Carter,” debuts July 8 and tells the story of Carter, a teenage girl who discovers the woman she believes to be her biological mother abducted her as a toddler.
MTV said it had greenlit three other new series. The Alaska-based “Slednecks” is a half-hour docu-series that follows a group of friends living in the modern-day wilds of Alaska. “One Bad Choice” explores young people grappling with the consequences of a single, terrible decision that irrevocably changed their lives. The show’s scripted tales are based on true stories. “Beyond Dance” is a weekly hour-long competition show that asks professional dancers to taken on extreme challenges and push themselves farther than ever to win a cash prize as well as the contest. Challenges may include such ideas as dancing on the side of a building, underwater or in zero gravity. Jason Dundas of VH-1′s “Big Morning Buzz” will host.
MTV said “Teen Wolf” would return for a fourth season while Rob Drydek’s “Ridiculousness” would come back for its fifth season. “Snooki & JWOWW,” “Real World” and “Girl Code” will also return for new seasons. On MTV2, a second season of “Nick Cannon Presents: Wild ‘N Out” will launch this summer.
