Naomi Campbell accepted the Fashion Icon Award at Harlem’s Fashion Row Fashion Show & Style Awards on Sept. 3. The supermodel attended the event wearing a timeless ensemble consisting of a black slip dress and black slingback pumps.
Looking effortlessly stylish as usual, Campbell attended the event wearing an ankle length black dress designed with a fitted silhouette. A cowl neck added an element of formality to the look as asymmetrical straps served as another noteworthy feature. With a satiny finish, the dress was a sleek statement on the red carpet for the “Night of the Legends” event which also honored Costume Designer Shiona Turini and Harper’s Bazaar Editor-In-Chief Samira Nasr, while showcasing the work of Aaron Potts, LaTouché and Nicole Benefield.
Campbell accessorized her outfit with dangling silver earrings, stacks of beaded bracelets and a dainty gold necklace; of course, she topped everything off with sunglasses.
Campbell continued to stick to the classics when it came time to select her footwear. She opted for a patent leather slingback pump, which stuck to tradition with a sharply pointed toe and a narrow heel in back. Differentiating from the classic enclosed pump style, the slingback is defined by a narrow strap that wraps around the heel, serving an aesthetic purpose and helping the foot stay in place.
In her acceptance speech, Campbell looked back on her career and expressed her gratitude for the award and acknowledged all the work that is still needed in terms of equality in the fashion industry. “This award is as much theirs as it is now my daughter’s,” Campbell said. “I am deeply grateful for this recognition. I don’t see it as accumulation. Rather, I see it as a call to action. Yes, our industry has made strides, but we still have a long way to go.”
Throughout her time in the spotlight, Campbell has been a proponent of a classic pointed pump. Attending the premiere of “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” at the Cannes Film Festival this year, the supermodel wore a different sharp black pair with a unique sequined black gown. She also slipped on a pair of black T-strap heels from Chanel for the brand’s fashion fall 2024 couture show in Paris earlier this year.
