Nat Geo's ‘Life Below Zero’ Producers Expose Cold Reality Behind the Scenes (Exclusive Video)

National Geographic Channel's “Life Below Zero” returned last week and viewers were reminded of the harsh conditions of winter in the remote wilderness of Alaska.

The series follows six Alaskans who battle the extreme weather throughout the day.

To get through the season, it takes more than just physical strength. They need to be mentally fit and resourceful to with cold-weather survival skills, food acquisition and managing their supplies.

In TheWrap's exclusive video, the cameras are turned on the production team and the cold reality they face while shooting the series.

From simply filming outdoors and using the restroom to fueling helicopters, the video shows that nothing seems to come easy behind-the-scenes of shooting fan favorite Sue Aikens.

Aikens lives 197 miles north of the Arctic Circle at the Kavik River Camp, where nine months of the year she is the sole resident, with only a family of foxes and a retired sled dog to keep her company.
