Nate Bargatze gets confused by Kenan Thompson’s age and Saturday Night Live‘s 50th season milestone in a new promo for the upcoming episode.
The comedian is hosting the second show of season 50 of the NBC sketch comedy show after Jean Smart hosted last weekend. Bargatze will be joined by musical guest Coldplay.

“Hi, I’m Nate Bargatze and I’m hosting SNL this week with musical guest Coldplay,” he says, as Thompson adds, “Season 50, let’s go!”
That’s when the Bargatze asks the longtime castmember, “So Kenan, you have been on the show for 50 whole years. That’s amazing! How does it feel?”
A confused Thompson tries to clarify that he hasn’t been on SNL quite that long, but the upcoming host interjects, “I mean you had to be 10 probably when you started? Dude, you look amazing for your age.”
“You think I’m 60 years old?” Thompson, who is actually 46, asks.
Later, the SNL castmember says, “This is what I love about SNL, people from all over the world coming together to put on a show.” Bargatze shares that he’s from America, while Coldplay frontman Chris Martin adds, “We’re from not America,” as they’re a U.K. band.
But when Bargatze asks Thompson where he’s from, he quips, “Oh, I’m from just behind the door right over there. Yep, born and raised … all my life … right here, [studio] 8H.” While Thompson hasn’t been on SNL for 50 years, he is the longest-tenured castmember in the show’s history after joining in 2003.
SNL airs Saturday at 11:30 p.m. ET/8:30 p.m. PT on NBC and streams live on Peacock. This weekend marks Bargatze’s return to Studio 8H after he made his hosting debut in October last year, with musical guests Foo Fighters.
