NBC reveals fall schedule: Blindspot gets tougher slot

NBC's biggest hit of the season is on the move.

The network just revealed its fall schedule (below) that includes this season's breakout Blindspot shifting to a much tougher time period, while new time-travel thriller Timeless has landed the coveted post-The Voice hit-making slot.

"It's one of the most high-octane fun shows we could have following The Voice," NBC Chairman Robert Greenblatt told reporters on Sunday. Blindspot will shift from Mondays at 10 p.m. to Wednesdays at 8 p.m. -- a troubled period that was occupied this season by The Mysteries of Laura and Heartbeat, both of which NBC has canceled. "We're excited about [having Blindspot] jump-start that night," Greenblatt noted.

Also notable is that NBC is trying comedy again on Thursday nights, programming two half-hour shows, the returning Superstore and newcomer The Good Place, at 8 p.m. NBC had a mix of dramas and reality fare on Thursdays this season. "We've been working on Thursdays for the last couple years to get back what NBC used to have on that night," Greenblatt said. (Check out the trailers for some of NBC's new fall shows.)

There's other minor shifts, as well, such as The Blacklist shifting from 9 p.m. on Thursday, where it has perched all season, to 10 p.m. "It will give it a strong lead-in -- with Chicago Med -- something it hasn't had this last season," Greenblatt explained.

Notably absent from the initial release: Any mention of comedy series The Carmichael Show, which the network later renewed on Sunday for a 13-episode season 3. Greenblatt said at the time that NBC was in talks with the studio for a potential pickup. "I was hoping we’d have [the decision] by now, we're going back and forth with the studio about the number of episodes and haven’t come to terms on that but hopefully we will," he said.

Missing from the fall schedule are several new shows that are being held for midseason, including The Blacklist spin-off Redemption. Also being held for 2017 among the freshman crop are Taken, Midnight, Texas, Emerald City, Great News, Trial & Error, Powerless, Marlon, and The Wall. Greenblatt noted that Taken will get post-Voice slot on Mondays next year, while the return of Celebrity Apprentice under new boss Arnold Schwarzenegger will get a different title: The New Celebrity Apprentice.

Over the last few days, NBC canceled six shows: Mysteries of Laura, Eva Longoria's Telenovela, sitcom Crowded, thriller Game of Silence, comedy Undateable, and medical drama Heartbeat (details here).
