Ever since Jessica Knight (Katrina Law) returned to the NCIS Major Case Response Team in DC, fans have been waiting for some sort of resolution – or at least an acknowledgment that things between her and Jimmy Palmer (Brian Dietzen) are anything but a-okay, as Jimmy tried to claim during NCIS Season 22, Episode 3 “The Trouble with Hal.” And if Katrina Law is to be believed, that acknowledgment is finally coming in next week’s episode of NCIS, titled “Sticks and Stones.”

And perhaps, something more than an acknowledgment.
Jimmy Palmer, after all, broke up with Jessica Knight just after she was offered the post of NCIS REACT Chief Training Officer at Camp Pendleton during the NCIS Season 21 finale. He didn’t even really wait for her to accept it; he just had a meltdown at the thought that she might be leaving and breaking up with him so he decided it was best if he broke up with her first.

The NCIS Season 22 premiere established neither Jimmy nor Jessica was too happy about the breakup, with both keeping count of the days they’d been broken up. And then Jessica was suddenly back with the team, so it felt like it was a matter of time before the two sat down to talk about it and decided to get back together. Except it’s been two episodes since and if there’s one thing Jessica and Jimmy haven’t done is talk about their relationship.
Post-premiere, Law teased Episode 4 would be the turning point for the two of them avoiding things. “The two of us get caught in a situation where we are together and we can’t get out of the situation,” Law told TV Guide. “And we’re finally forced to have that talk.” As for how it will go, Law also teased “It’s heartbreaking, it’s wonderful, it’s charming. It’s the two of them.”
That doesn’t answer the question of whether the ship, dubbed Knight In Shining Palmer by fans, will find their way back to each other. But with Torres deciding he can now put himself out there again, Kasie having convinced Vance to turn Ducky’s office into a multi-purpose room everyone can enjoy, and even Vance and his girlfriend going steady, it feels like the show’s next big piece of the puzzle has to be the Jessica and Jimmy relationship.

Sure, McGee is investigating new NCIS Deputy Director Laroche, and he’s going rogue by doing so without the team. But a “the team has a mole” storyline has the makings of something that can drag for at least half a season, if not more. Jessica and Jimmy are about to explode if they spend one more second with each other without talking about their issues. And with Parker telling McGee in the trailer for Episode 4 to wake everyone up because “I think World War III is about to start,” the stakes couldn’t be higher.
High stakes sure make for emotional declarations. And if there’s one thing NCIS has already established is that Knight and Palmer love each other. All they need to do is learn to communicate better, and hopefully, the relationship can get back to what it was before. No, the relationship can be even better than what they had before. And if they want to follow in the footsteps of this show’s iconic couple, Tony and Ziva, they might as well start working on it now.
NCIS airs Mondays at 9 p.m. ET and is available to stream on Paramount Plus.
