Neil Marshall & Marc Helwig Launch Production Company, Sign Deal With Legendary Television
Emmy nominated director Neil Marshall (Game Of Thrones) and his longtime agent Marc Helwig have formed a TV/film production company, Applebox Entertainment, which has signed a two-year overall deal with Legendary TV. The English-born duo will develop scripted dramas with focus on elevated genre fare and projects with worldwide appeal.
Helwig had been Marshall’s agent for 16 years, first in London, then at ICM and most recently at Jeff Berg’s Resolution. When that company folded late last year, the two decided to become producing partners.
“Aside from our long standing business relationship, going on 17 years now, Marc and I are also great friends and share a common passion and desire to create exceptional television and movies,” Marshall said. “Marc understands the business, inside and out, but he also understands and appreciates that great drama comes from a great story and great characters.”
Marshall is coming off a directing Emmy nomination for “The Watchers On The Wall” episode of Game Of Thrones, which was one of the two GOT episodes featured in the HBO fantasy drama’s successful IMAX theatrical run. Marshall also helmed the well-received 2012 GOT episode “Blackwater”, the pilot for NBC’s comic book adaptation Constantine and the opening episode of Starz’s Michael Bay-produced pirate drama Black Sails. “Few directors possess Neil’s extraordinary talent of creating intense, visceral action inside breathtaking worlds,” Helwig said.
Marshall, whose feature credits include The Descent, most recently directed upcoming episodes of NBC’s Hannibal.
As a literary agent, Helwig helped launch the U.S. careers of such international up-and-coming filmmakers as Corin Hardy (The Crow), Andy Muschietti (Mama), Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo (Leatherface), Christian Ditter (How To Be Single) and Ole Bornedal (Possession).
Applebox is repped by WME and attorney Carlos Goodman. Marshall is repped by WME and David Gardner at Principato Young.
