Neiman Marcus holiday 'fantasy gifts' are expensive and ridiculous
You get a multi-million dollar gift! And you get a multi-million dollar gift!
Neiman Marcus wants you to buy a crazy expensive present for just about everyone. The company has just released their annual holiday catalog, which is known for featuring outrageous “fantasy gifts” every year.
Some examples from this year: A walk-on role in Broadway’s Annie: The Musical for $30,000, a hen house inspired by France’s Versailles palace for $100,000, and — most expensive of all — a pair of “his and hers” timepieces for just over $1 million from Van Cleef & Arpels. According to the AP, the watches depict a tale of lost love on the faces and come complete with a trip to romantic Paris and Geneva.
Ginger Reeder, Neiman Marcus’ vice president of public relations, said the fantasy gifts are a nod to the spirit of the holiday season (huh?) and the fantasies children have about what they want for Christmas. “All we’ve done is notched up what’s on the list or what’s available to be on your list,” Reeder told the AP. All of the fantasy gifts are paired with a charity that benefits from their sale.
Obviously, these gifts are just a bit over the top. But let’s play a little game, PopWatchers. If money were no object, would you rather have a $90,000 gaming machine (impress your friends!), a $99,500 water-propelled jetpack (choose your own adventure!) or a $250,000 private dinner for 10 featuring four famous chefs (delicious food!)? All are available this year.
