Netflix's Seven Seconds not returning for second season

Starring: Regina King, Clare-Hope Ashitey, Beau Knapp Number of seasons: 1

Seven Seconds, the Netflix drama created by The Killing‘s Veena Sud, is out of time. The freshman series won’t be returning for a second season, EW has confirmed.

The show, which followed Regina King as the mother of a black teenager who is accidentally run over by a white police officer and the ensuing cover-up, premiered on the streaming service on Feb. 23. EW’s review called the series “a solid binge” and complimented the chemistry between prosecutor KJ Harper (Clare-Hope Ashitey) and fast-talking detective Joe “Fish” Rinaldi (Michael Mosley), as well as King’s performance (“no one does heart-wrenching grief like Regina King”).

“We loved working with Veena Sud, Regina King, and the cast and crew of Seven Seconds,” Cindy Holland, VP of original content at Netflix, said in a statement. “Together they created a compelling, timely, and relevant crime drama. The first season is a complete, stand-alone story that we are proud to feature on Netflix for years to come.”

The streamer still intends to submit the series for Emmy consideration in the limited series category.

Seven Seconds is currently available on Netflix.
