Netflix Reveals Six Countries in 2014 European Expansion Plans

Netflix is coming to Germany, France, Luxembourg, Belgium, Austria and Switzerland later this year, the company revealed late Tuesday.

The streaming service announced earlier this year plans to branch out further in Europe, but didn’t disclose which ones. France and Germany were long seen as the likeliest candidates for expansion.

Netflix didn’t reveal in what order they will get started in each country or in what time frame, but by year-end the company is expected to bring its total international footprint to 46 countries.

Netflix is already active in Europe in the U.K, Netherlands and Scandinavia. Other regions include Canada and Latin America. The streaming service reported 48 million subscribers worldwide in the first quarter of the year.

Netflix’s international business accounted for 21% of the company’s streaming revenue last year but registered a loss of $274.3 million.
