New Agents on ‘X-Files’ Left Us Thinking a Reboot is on the Way
On Sunday’s “Babylon” episode of The X-Files, viewers were introduced to new FBI agents Miller (Robbie Amell) and Einstein (Lauren Ambrose). Agent Miller is a lot like Mulder in his belief that anything is possible and the world is full of unexplainable phenomena. While agent Einstein is much more rational, like Scully, and prefers to view the world through a scientific lens.
The episode centered on a terrorist bombing, with the looming threat of more to come. The agents teamed up to bring down a terrorist cell — but in a somewhat unusual way. Mulder took hallucinogenic mushrooms in order to speak with a comatose terrorist. The terrorist revealed where the cell was hiding, and the attack was thwarted. It should be noted that agent Einstein was the one who procured the “magic mushrooms,” which she later claimed were just placebo pills. So what caused Mulder to hallucinate may never be known.
The most interesting takeaway from the episode, however, is that it appears that Miller and Einstein are being groomed for a reboot of the popular X-Files franchise. Lauren Ambrose has a very impressive resume and Robbie Amell is already popular in the sci-fi community from his work on The Flash, so it isn’t too hard to envision them carrying a new (old) show.
X-Files airs Mondays at 8 p.m. on FOX.
