New auction offers Prince's personal treasures, including his own vinyl 'Purple Rain'
What’s cooler than listening to a Prince album? Listening to a Prince album that actually belonged to Prince might fit in that category.
A couple of dozen items that previously belonged to the Purple One are now up for auction, including some standout listings such as the late singer’s own personal copy of Purple Rain on vinyl; a Jehovah’s Witness travel Bible; and a trove of wardrobe items, including jewelry, sunglasses, suits, and shoes.
For superfans seeking even more arcane memorabilia, there’s also Prince’s personal key card allowing access to the Paisley Park garage (“one side is smeared with makeup due to being kept in a bag containing Prince’s cosmetics,” the description notes), a set of unused bank checks from Paisley Park Enterprises Inc., and a selection of Prince’s own all-access passes to various concerts and events.
The items are up for bid courtesy of Prince’s former bodyguard and presented by Heritage Auctions. Bids for the collection will close on July 21. As one might expect, the costs for these items are on the steep side, with starting bids in the thousands of dollars.
Prince was found dead at his recording studio in Minnesota on April 21, 2016, at the age of 57. It was determined that he died of an overdose of the opioid fentanyl.
