Newly Married Jeremy Renner Channels His 'Avengers' Costar, Talks Hawkeye's Future
Renner channels his ‘Avengers’ co-star Scarlett Johansson
Jeremy Renner might not be planning on a Hawkeye solo movie, but that doesn’t mean he’s not entertaining spin-off possibilities. In a snapshot posted to WhoSay from the Age of Ultron set, Renner accessorizes his Hawkeye costume with an eerily lifelike mask of Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow character. His caption: “Hawkeye and Widow? Widow and Hawkeye??? Hmmm. #iftheyhadababy #widow #hawkeye.” While the effect of seeing ScarJo’s face on Renner’s ripped body is undoubtedly creepy, it does leave us wondering: Was Renner just goofing around? Or was he preparing to stunt double for a then-pregnant Johansson?
On-set cosplay aside, Renner (who just confirmed a secret marriage to Sonni Pacheco, the mother of his 17-month-old daughter Ava) said in a recent interview that he doesn’t anticipate having an Avengers spin-off to himself — though he wouldn’t be opposed to making an appearance in, say, the next Captain America movie. “I’m happy to be the ensemble. I’m not scratching or clawing to do a solo movie by any means,” Renner, who plays the heroic archer, told MTV News. “I think [Hawkeye is] a utility guy that can bounce around into other people’s universes a little bit, especially like Cap 3.” The actor accompanies those last three words with a giant wink — so he’s either confirming the rumor that he’ll appear in the sequel to Captain America: Winter Soldier, or just trying to fuel the frenzy of speculation.

Maybe Renner is just too busy to consider his own superhero movie right now. The Oscar nominee is a man of many franchises, including the Avengers, Mission: Impossible, and Jason Bourne movies. He does promise that audiences will see more of Hawkeye (real name: Clint Barton) in the upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron than they did in the first film, which relegated his character to the role of brainwashed villain.
