Nick Jonas Says the Jonas Brothers Spent a Year 'Doing Therapy' Before Reunion
Before The Jonas Brothers reunited, Nick Jonas says he and his famous siblings had to work through some issues that originally caused the band to go their separate ways — and spent a year “doing therapy” to get back on the same page.
On Monday, the 26-year-old stopped by The Late Late Show with James Corden alongside his brothers and bandmates Joe Jonas, 29, and Kevin Jonas, 31, for the first appearance in a week-long celebration dedicated to their highly anticipated reunion. And while there, he opened up about their journey to performing again.
“We literally spent a year basically doing therapy, working through some things, and figuring out what this chapter would look like,” Nick confessed on the CBS evening show. “We’ve had to be really open and honest. There are things in the past that bothered us from time to time, even in our performances that we would do.”

All that came flashing back to Nick when the guys recently performed their first show together.
“It was amazing after the first couple of songs,” he said. “I was so paranoid those first few two or three songs they would be mad at me after this, that I was not able to enjoy it. Then at a certain point I looked at them and thought, ‘This is amazing. I’m going to have the best time ever.’ And we did. A great show.”
Reuniting wasn’t something Nick, Joe, and Kevin had originally set out to do. The trio was filming an upcoming Amazon Studios documentary at the time, which was supposed to be about their childhood, their time in the band, and their lives today.
“It was gonna be a story about where we are today,” Nick explained. “And that was, separate lives doing separate things — Joe with DNCE, and me with my solo stuff.”
“During that time, we started to realize there was a magic that we felt like we were missing,” Nick said. “So the process was basically just, ‘Why don’t we give this another shot?’ “
All became crystal clear for Nick when the three started playing together again. “We started playing a little music together and realized right away this is where we’re meant to be in our lives at this moment,” Nick said.
The Jonas Brothers released their first new song in nearly six years on Friday, a catchy pop hit called “Sucker” about being head-over-heels in relationships. “I’m a sucker for you/Say the word and I’ll go anywhere blindly/Any road you take you know that you’ll find me,” they sing in the tune.
Of course, all three are in happy relationships themselves. Nick is married to actress Priyanka Chopra, 36; Joe is engaged to actress Sophie Turner, 23; and Kevin is married to Danielle Jonas, 32, with whom he has two daughters (Alena Rose, 5, and Valentina Angelina, 2).
All three ladies joined their respective partners in the video for “Sucker,” which also dropped on March 1.
In the clip, the group rock numerous avant-garde costumes as they live out their Alice in Wonderland fantasies around a castle (including taking bubble baths in the garden). Each couple gets their chance to shine throughout (and even share some PDA). Eventually, they all come together as a group and pose while an artist paints their portrait.

Prior to The Jonas Brothers’ official reunion announcement, a source confirmed to PEOPLE that the band would be coming back — revealing Nick, Joe and Kevin had a breakfast meeting at the Polo Lounge at The Beverly Hills Hotel in Los Angeles in early February.
The New Jersey natives first snagged a record deal in 2005 and went on to release four full-length albums: It’s About Time (2006), Jonas Brothers (2007), A Little Bit Longer (2008) and Lines, Vines and Trying Times (2009).
They catapulted to fame thanks to a slew of Disney Channel originals — from working with Miley Cyrus for her massive Hannah Montana world tour, to starring in their own series Jonas and then Camp Rock (2008) and its 2010 sequel alongside Demi Lovato.

But the Bros officially disbanded in 2013, as they were prepping to release their fifth LP.
After the split, both Nick and Joe pursued solo careers. Nick released a self-titled album in 2014 (which included his smash “Jealous”), then Last Year Was Complicated in 2016. Joe — who had previously released a solo effort, Fastlife in 2011 — launched the funk-pop act DNCE in 2015, scoring a hit with “Cake by the Ocean,” off a self-titled 2016 LP.
Kevin successfully got into real estate development after the JoBros as he and his wife Danielle started their family.
