It was announced on Friday that Michael Malarkey (The Vampire Diaries‘ Enzo) has joined the Netflix hit in the role of Markus, a trained military leader loyal to his dictator uncle who was recently convicted in the Hague of War Crimes, while Keon Alexander (The Expanse) will play Javad, the head of security for the Iranian Mission to the United Nations.

Also new to the Night Agent mix are Navid Negahban (Homeland) as Abbas, the distinguished and measured Iranian Ambassador to the UN, and Rob Heaps (Imposters) as Tomas, who is described as “British-educated, rich, entitled but driven” and “desperate to return his family to power after his dictator father’s conviction for war crimes.”

The Night Agent Season 2 casting parade kicked off in December with the news that Amanda Warren (East New York) will play Catherine Weaver, a veteran of the Night Action program who trains and oversees agents including noob Peter Sutherland.

The series also previously recruited Brittany Snow (American Dreams), Teddy Sears (The Flash), Arienne Mandi (The L Word: Generation Q), Louis Herthum (The Peripheral) and Berto Colon (Power Book II: Ghost). Snow will play Alice, Peter’s partner and mentor in his first assignment in Night Action; Sears is Warren, a high-level intelligence officer who becomes the subject of a Night Action investigation; Mandi will play Noor, a low-level aide in the Iranian mission to the UN in New York; Herthum is Jacob Monroe, an international businessman with global connections that he uses to obtain valuable information; and Colon will play Solomon, a former Marine turned right-hand man/fixer.

It was also confirmed that Luciane Buchanan will return as Rose Larkin — as will, of course, Gabriel Basso as the titular Peter Sutherland.

Based on the novel of the same name by Matthew Quirk, Season 1 of The Night Agent followed Peter, a low-level FBI Agent who worked in the basement of the White House, manning a phone that never rang — until it did. That call, from panicked cybersecurity expert Rose, propelled the two into a conspiracy that ultimately led all the way to the Oval Office. All the while, the heroic couple was dogged by not just a team of lovebird assassins, but an inscrutable bunch of White House bigwigs.

Details on the TV series’ Season 2 storyline remain scarce — and author Matthew Quirk has no second novel featuring FBI Agent Sutherland.

The Night Agent was famously renewed just six days after its March 23, 2023 release, after landing on Netflix’s in-house Top 10 list in no fewer than 93 countries. The series went on to dominate Nielsen’s streaming Top 10 chart upon its debut, then held onto that No. 1 spot for two more weeks.

Filming on Season 2 began Jan. 15, in Thailand and other locations, and the series is due to return in the second half of 2024.
