No One's Convincing Hugh Grant to Settle Down
Hugh Grant may play the hopeless romantic in many a rom-com, but his real-life views on the subject aren’t quite as optimistic.
On Wednesday, Grant appeared on Howard Stern’s SiriusXM show for the first time and was pretty candid when it came to discussing his take on marriage.
“If you ask me the question, ‘Do I think human beings are meant to be in 40-year-long monogamous, faithful, relationships? … No, no,” the actor told Stern. “Whoever said they were? Only the Bible or something, no one ever said that was a good idea.”
Grant, now 55, began dating Elizabeth Hurley in 1987 and was still in a relationship with her in 1995, when he was infamously arrested on misdemeanor lewd conduct after being caught with Hollywood prostitute Divine Brown in his car on Sunset Boulevard. Despite the infidelity, Hurley stayed by his side until 2000, when they separated amicably. Though never married, Hugh has since had four children with two different women, one of whom is his current girlfriend, Anna Eberstein (they have two children together).
“I think there’s something unromantic about marriage,” he explained on the radio show. “You’re closing yourself off.”
