Chicago P.D. is bringing back a familiar face for Season 12. The show, which has seen considerable cast turnover in the last two seasons, with Jesse Lee Soffer’s Jay Halstead leaving in Season 10 and then his on-screen wife Hailey Upton, played by Tracy Spiridakos, leaving in Season 11, is adding a One Chicago veteran to the cast. But who is joining the show and what role is she expected to play in the new season?

Who Are the Chicago P.D. Season 12 New Cast Members?
The show has added Toya Turner in a series regular role for the upcoming Season 12, TVLine reported. The actress is set to play the role of Kiana Cook, “a patrol officer who loves the adrenaline of the job and its stakes and doesn’t blink in the face of chaos.” Turner had previously guest starred on the two other One Chicago properties, Chicago Med and Chicago Fire.
Her first appearance was on the Season 2, Episode 13 episode of Chicago Fire, titled “Tonight’s the Night,” back in 2014. Back then she played a character called “Peaches the Prostitute.” She didn’t have a lot of screen time, but whatever she did was enough to land a second One Chicago supporting role, this time on Chicago Med.

There, she played a woman called Jayna Miles in the first episode of the second season of the show, titled “Soul Care.” It wasn’t a big role, once again, but Turner made an impression. The actress then starred in Grey’s Anatomy, The Mick, Easy, Empire, and Warrior Nun. And now, it’s time to go back to the one One Chicago show she hasn’t had a chance to star in – but in a much bigger role.
Turner will be filling in the role in Intelligence left open by the departure of Tracy Spiridakos’ Hailey Upton. More details about her character are yet unknown but she is expected to partner up with either Kevin Atwater or Dante Torres, the two members of Intelligence who don’t have a partner. And, who knows, perhaps romance could flourish with one of them as well?
After a nail-biting Season 11 finale, Sergeant Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) and Upton have a frank conversation about her future, which sees her deciding to leave Intelligence behind for good. The finale’s last scene showed Upton researching jobs at the FBI, FEMA, and DEA before she packed up her apartment and took a taxi to the Chicago O’Hare Airport. Just before the credits rolled, the driver asked her: “Where are you headed?” Upton didn’t respond and instead smiled as she stared out the window.
