In One Ear: Up in smoke
Ah, well, online rumblings of a sequel to “The Goonies,” after causing havoc in Goonie fandom, appear to be yet another rumor.
All the lovely enthusiasm generated has gone up in smoke, and actors who starred in the original movie are speaking up. There’s not a peep from Hollywood mover and shaker Steven Spielberg, though, whose story was the basis of the movie.
On Sept. 10, actor Corey Feldman (Mouth) posted on X (translated into English): “ ... Is Goonies 2 real?! Everyone is asking. I can officially tell you 100% no. Have no info that a sequel is in the works ... ”
Martha Plimpton (Stef) took to Instagram on Sept. 12 with a discouraging note: “People, there is no Goonies 2 script, there is no one ‘attached,’ Spielberg is not directing, it’s not real,” then she went on to urge people to vote.
On. Sept. 13, Robert Davi (Jake Fratelli) gave The Mirror an exclusive interview: “his ‘intel’ is that it’s ‘not happening,’ but he questioned if the latest rumours (were) started by someone who was ‘testing the waters.’” He might be onto something there.
The only hopeful note was from Sean Astin (Mikey), on X. He posted an image of a fake movie poster for “Goonies Are Good Enough,” along with the words: “It’s our time. C’mon Steven ... ”
