One of the Most Coveted Air Jordans Is Coming Back for Its 10th Anniversary

More from Footwear News

To call the Air Jordan 1 High “Shattered Backboard” a fan-favorite sneaker would be an undersell. Debuting in 2015, it ushered in new levels of hype around the model and has become one of the most sought-after non-original Jordan styles in existence. Now, early rumors indicate the shoes will be coming back in their original form to celebrate the release’s 10th anniversary.

The original ’15 “Shattered Backboard” Air Jordan 1 High is beloved by fans for its high-quality build and unique backstory. Its black, white and orange colors come from the jersey worn by Michael Jordan overseas following his Rookie of the Year-winning first season in the NBA. Nearly 40 years ago to the day, on August 25, 1985, Jordan represented Italy’s Stefanel Trieste against JuveCaserta in a Nike-sponsored exhibition game.

Jordan is said to have scored 30 points, but what stole the show was his backboard-breaking slam dunk which sent glass careening onto the floor — and the opposing team. During the game, Jordan wore the “Chicago” colorway of his Air Jordan 1, and that signed pair was sold by auction house Christie’s in 2020 for $615,000.

The obscure moment in basketball history went largely unnoticed until the story was used for the ’15 Air Jordan 1 “Shattered Backboard” release. The pair was well received enough that Jordan Brand revisited the concept with the “Reverse Shattered Backboard” in 2016, the women’s “Satin Shattered Backboard” in 2018 and the crinkled leather “Shattered Backboard 3.0” in 2019. The concept has also found its way to Air Jordan 1 Lows and Mids as well as other models such as the Air Jordan 5.

Although demand for the original Air Jordan 1 High “Shattered Backboard” has cooled off some, StockX still lists an average resale price of nearly $1,000.

Rather than continue to rework the theme, Jordan Brand will reportedly release the original-style “Shattered Backboard” Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG in fall 2025. The “Black/Black/Sail/Starfish” colorway, with a SKU of DZ5485-008, is expected to be available in full family sizing with men’s sizes retailing at $180.
