The Onion’s Emmy Predictions Throw Shade at ‘Game of Thrones,’ ‘The Crown,’ and More
The Emmys are on Monday, and there’s no shortage of prognosticators out there to tell you which shows will triumph and which will leave empty-handed. In addition to IndieWire’s coverage of TV’s biggest award show, The Onion is doing characteristically fine work when it comes to the prediction game — even if their explanations don’t necessarily track.
They think “Barry” will win Outstanding Comedy Series, for instance, but not for the reason you might expect: “This stunning new dark comedy from HBO stars Bill Hader as an new aspiring actor struggling to conceal his past identity as President Barack Obama,” reads the blurb. Predicting another “Game of Thrones” win for Outstanding Drama Series seems a fairly safe bet, and the rationale might not be too far from the truth in this case: “Emmy voters have stated they’d like to stop giving it awards but it feels like they’re too far into it at this point and they might as well just keep awarding it all the way to the end.”
The most out-there prediction has to be Queen Elizabeth II for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series, which might come as news to Claire Foy: “Wait, you mean that wasn’t her on The Queen? Oh, man, you had us fooled!”

Then there’s Jessica Biel, whose fine work in “The Sinner” makes her their choice for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie: “So that’s what Jessica Biel has been up to.” Truly. Read the full predictions here.
