Orlando Bloom opens up about 'challenging' relationship with Katy Perry: 'Never a dull moment'
Orlando Bloom and Katy Perry are proving that as the saying goes, opposites attract.
Bloom, who began dating Perry in 2016, opened up about the dynamic of his relationship with the pop star in an interview with Flaunt magazine published Wednesday.
The “Carnival Row” actor said he and Perry, whom he referred to as his “baby mama and life partner,” have differing approaches to life because of their contrasting backgrounds as creatives.
“We’re in two very different pools,” Bloom said of their relationship. “Her pool is not a pool that I necessarily understand, and I think my pool is not a pool that she necessarily understands. Sometimes things are really, really, really, challenging. I won’t lie.”
He added: “We definitely battle with our emotions and creativity, (but) I think we’re both aware of how blessed we are to have uniquely connected in the way that we did at the time that we did, and there’s definitely never a dull moment.”

The couple’s differences nearly derailed their romance at one point, with Bloom and Perry separating in 2017. In a 2020 interview with CBC, Perry got candid about her mental state after the two split, which coincided with the release of her 2017 album “Witness.”
"I had broken up with my boyfriend, who is now my baby-daddy-to-be, and then I was excited about flying high off the next record and the record didn't get me high anymore,” Perry said. “The validation didn't get me high, and so I just crashed.”
Perry and Bloom went on to reconcile, and the couple got engaged on Valentine's Day 2019. They also welcomed a child, daughter Daisy Dove, in 2020. During an interview with E! in August of that year, Perry discussed what type of mom she wanted to be.
"I'm definitely parenting style 3Fs: I'm fun, firm but fair," Perry said at the time. "Yes, I like to get things done, and I like to create a peaceful scene and it takes a matriarchy to do that."
