How to watch Oscars 2020, starring the casts of 'Joker,' 'Little Women,' '1917' and more
Reading about who took home the Oscar just isn’t the same as seeing it live on TV.
The show is when you see the unscripted moments, like when Jennifer Lawrence stumbled up the stairs to accept her Best Actress trophy for Silver Linings Playbook or when Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway announced the wrong best picture winner, La La Land instead of actual winner Moonlight, in 2017. You can bet that something will happen that people will be talking about on Monday morning, whether it’s a surprising loss (say, Joaquin Phoenix doesn’t win for Joker) or someone gives a political speech (probably Phoenix again). It’s why millions watch.
This year, there are some options for tuning in to the ceremony, which airs live from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Calif., on Sunday, Feb. 9, at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT. Catch it on ABC, ABC.com or watch it through a streaming provider that offers the network, including Hulu With Live TV, YouTube TV, or DirectTV Now, all of which offer a free trial period.
Fashion fans will want to tune in even earlier, though, to see the arrivals. ABC’s pre-show, Oscars Live on the Red Carpet, begins at 6:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. PT, if you want to save yourself from changing the channel before the show. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ similarly named Oscars All Access: Red Carpet Live, will stream live from the Dolby Theatre at the Hollywood & Highland Center in Los Angeles. It begins at 6:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. PT, via the @TheAcademy account on Twitter.
Of course, E! is offering pre-show content, too. The coverage begins early, at 1 p.m. ET/10 a.m. PT, with E! Countdown to the Red Carpet: Oscars 2020, followed by the network’s traditional E! Live From the Red Carpet, with Ryan Seacrest and Giuliana Rancic, at 5 p.m. ET/2 p.m. PT.

Once the actual Oscars begin, look for the year’s most-nominated films, including Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, The Irishman and 1917, to come up many times. Parasite, Little Women, Jojo Rabbit, Marriage Story and Ford v Ferrari are among the nominees in the Best Picture category.
One of the things you won’t see: a host. Producers have decided to go without one for the second year in a row, saving someone from a whole lot of stress. Just ask David Letterman.
