OSCARS: Serbia Sends ‘See You in Montevideo’ to Academy Awards

LONDON — “See You in Montevideo,” directed by Dragan Bjelogrlic, has been selected as Serbia’s entry for the Academy Award for foreign-language film, according to the InSerbia News website.

The film follows the fortunes of the Yugoslav soccer team at the World Cup in 1930 in Uruguay. It is a sequel to Bjelogrlic’s 2010 movie “Montevideo, Taste of a Dream,” which was also Serbia’s Oscar entry.

Pic, which was produced by Intermedia Network in Belgrade, stars Milos Bikovic, Petar Strugar, Armand Assante, Viktor Savic and Elena Martinez.

Mirko Beokovic, secretary-general of the Serbian Academy of Film Arts and Sciences, said the org’s expert committee had voted on Monday to submit the pic, which received nine votes, while Slobodan Skerlic’s “So Hot Was the Cannon” nabbed seven.

The deadline for submissions for the foreign-language category is Oct. 1. The Oscar nominations are revealed Jan. 15, and the awards take place on Feb. 22.
