Oshkosh things to do this week include XRoads41 music festival with Old Dominion, Brooks & Dunn and Journey

OSHKOSH – Concerts, crafts and chalk can all be found in the Oshkosh area this week.

The XRoads41 music festival that offers three days of live music and camping will kick off Aug. 8.

Other places to find live music is Brews on the Bay and Waterfest.

Older teens and adults can try out different crafts at the library during Art After Hours, and everyone can enjoy the artists at work during the Chalk Walk around the Opera House Square.

Award-winning acts to headline inaugural XRoads41 festival

Organized by Oshkosh Festivals, the XRoads41 music festival is set to take place Aug. 8 to 10 at 4125 S. Washburn St.

A variety of bands are included in the lineup for each day of the festival. Headliners are Old Dominion Aug. 8, Brooks & Dunn Aug. 9 and Journey Aug. 10.

Tickets are available for one day or the entire weekend, with campsites also available. Purchase tickets online at xroads41.com.

Note that the festival is cashless, so be sure to have a card to purchase food and drinks.

Old Dominion, formed in Nashville, is a country music band that consists of Matthew Ramsey, Trevor Rosen, Whit Sellers, Geoff Sprung and Brad Tursi. The band has released five full-length albums and three EPs. Hits include “Break Up with Him,” “No Such Thing as a Broken Heart” and “One Man Band.“

Brooks & Dunn boasts 20 No. 1 hits, two Grammy awards, dozens of other honors and more album sales than any duo in history. Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn have been performing together since the early 1990s. Their hits include “Boot Scootin’ Boogie,” “My Maria” and “Believe.” In 2019, the duo was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Journey is a rock band formed in San Francisco in 1973. The band as of 2024 consists of Neal Schon (the last remaining original member), Jonathan Cain, Jason Derlatka, Deen Castronovo, Todd Jensen and Arnel Pineda. Hits include “Don’t Stop Believin’” and “Open Arms.” One of the best-selling bands of all time, Journey was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2017. Inductees included Steve Perry, Schon, keyboardists Cain and Gregg Rolie, bassist Ross Valory, and drummers Aynsley Dunbar and Steve Smith.

Art After Hours offers a chance to try out a new craft

Oshkosh Public Library, 106 Washington Ave., will host Art After Hours from 6 to 9 p.m. Aug. 3.

Adults and teens 16 and older are welcome to attend this free event “Under the Dome.” A library card is not required to attend.

Some of the crafts include spin or string art, bookmarks, coloring, painting a mini canvas and getting a henna design (for women).

Snacks, mocktails and fruit-infused waters will also be available.

Chalk artwork to be created around Opera House Square

Downtown Oshkosh will host the annual Chalk Walk Aug. 3 at the Opera House Square, 315 N. Main St. The rain date is Aug. 10.

Artists will begin creating chalk artwork at 8 a.m. on the sidewalks around the square.

While artist registration closed July 31, visitors are encouraged to watch the artists. Food, music and more and will be included.

Brews on the Bay offers free concerts, food, craft beers

The Aug. 7 Brews on the Bay event will feature the music of Brad Emanuel. Concerts in this series are 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays at Rainbow Park, 1650 Rainbow Drive.

In addition to the live music, the event features food trucks and local craft beers. Admission is free.

The next session of Brews on the Bay will be Aug. 21, featuring Swamp Water Boogie.

Aug. 8 Waterfest concert is ‘British Invasion Night’

Aug. 8 is British Invasion Night at Waterfest. Gates open at 5:45 p.m. at the Leach Amphitheater, 303 Ceape Ave.

This concert features Herman’s Hermits starring Peter Noone and Beatles tribute band American English.

Formed in 1963 in Manchester, Herman’s Hermits is fronted by singer Peter Noone. They are one of the most successful acts in the Beatles-led British Invasion. Between March and August 1965 in the United States, the group had five singles in the Top Ten of Billboard’s Hot 100 for 24 consecutive weeks. Some of their hits from the 1960s include “Mrs. Brown You’ve Got a Lovely Daughter,” “I’m Henry VIII, I Am,” “I’m into Something Good,” “A Must to Avoid” and “No Milk Today.”

The American English show takes the audience from the early years with hits like “She Loves You,” Twist and Shout,” and “I Want to Hold Your Hand.” Then moves on to selections from Sgt. Pepper and Magical Mystery Tour, ending with music from their final years, including “Hey Jude,” “Something” and “Let it Be.”
