‘Outer Banks’ Season 4, Part 1, Ending Explained: Pogues Face a Setback, JJ’s Real Family Is Revealed
The Pogues once again found themselves a step behind at the end of season 4, part 1, of Outer Banks. Plus, JJ (Rudy Pankow) found out some unexpected information about his family tree.
Who Is JJ’s Real Dad in ‘Outer Banks’?
During the season 4, part 1, finale, JJ received a letter from the late Wes Genrette that said, “Though I would very much like to converse with you about this matter, I believe it best that you first talk to your father. Ask him about Albatross.”
JJ ended up tracking down his dad, who was on the run as a wanted man. With the police on their tails, JJ reluctantly saved his father in a getaway boat and they escaped to the top of a lighthouse. There, JJ’s dad revealed that Albatross was the name of the boat that Larissa Genrette (Wes’ daughter) died on.
JJ’s dad admitted that he wasn’t JJ’s blood father. Larissa is his mother and Chandler Groff is his father, which makes him a rightful heir to the Genrette fortune.
‘Outer Banks’ Season 4 Ending Explained
While JJ was learning about his family history, Kiara (Madison Bailey) was waiting for him back at Poguelandia. Sarah (Madelyn Cline), John B (Chase Stokes), Pope (Jonathan Daviss) and Cleo (Carlacia Grant) went to Charleston to track down Blackbeard’s blue crown.
Based on the captain’s log they were given by Wes Genrette and the clue about a “half moon,” which was written on the amulet they previously retrieved and was later stolen from them, they found themselves at a church in a cemetery. Pope pointed out that it made no sense that Blackbeard would waste time making coffins for two of his crew members while on the run and trying to protect his treasure, so he determined that one of the coffins must actually hold something more important – the blue crown.
Pope, Sarah and Cleo discovered a crypt underneath the church. Pope and Sarah went inside the crypt while Cleo kept watch. The duo got locked underground on their search.
Meanwhile, John B was in the cemetery and watching Lightner and Dalia use the stolen amulet to unlock the crypt from the outside. While Pope and Sarah were hiding underground, Lightner and Dalia opened one of the coffins and found a scroll inside. They noted that it was what they needed and escaped the same way they came in.
Unfortunately, they used the amulet to lock the door behind them, leaving Pope and Sarah trapped inside. With rain starting to pour down, the water level was quickly rising on them and their fate remains unknown.
As Lightner and Dalia got away, John B approached them with the group’s gun. He was aiming at them, ready to shoot, but couldn’t bring himself to do it, allowing Lightner and Dalia to get away with the scroll.
Hollis Robinson Is Up to No Good on ‘Outer Banks’
Meanwhile, Rafe (Drew Starkey) apologized to Sofia (Fiona Paloma) for telling the other Kooks that she wasn’t his girlfriend. He began talking about their future together and how good it could be once he made money from the deal he made with Hollis Robinson (Brianna Brown) to buy the Genrette property.
Sofia was aware that Hollis was just swindling Rafe since Hollis had paid her $25,000 to talk him into taking the deal. Once Rafe apologized, Sofia tried to get him to back out, but it was too late – he had already made the $400,000 wire transfer.
The part 1 finale ended by showing Hollis and Chandler on the Genrette property, seemingly revealing that they were working together.
Who Died in ‘Outer Banks’ Season 4, Part 1?
Wes was one of the season’s casualties. He revealed to the Pogues that his family was haunted by the ghost of Blackbeard’s wife, Elizabeth, because one of his ancestors killed Blackbeard and Elizabeth. He said his family members – including Larissa – saw Elizabeth before they died. Before Wes died, he seemingly saw the ghost of Elizabeth too.
However, when an autopsy was done, there were hand marks on Wes’ neck, which marked the same strangulation marks on the neck of an unidentified man who was buried on the beach. Police questioned Chandler about the night of Wes’ death. He denied any involvement but lied and claimed that the Pogues were at the Genrette house on the night Wes died.
The season’s other death was a tough one for Cleo. It was revealed that Terrance – the captain of the cargo ship that Cleo previously worked on – was working with Lightner and his crew. He assured Cleo he was on her side and urged her to give the amulet to Lightner because he was a dangerous man.
When Cleo tried to trick Lightner, he attacked her and Terrance came to her rescue. He got shot and killed by Lightner while trying to save Cleo. The Pogues dumped his body in the water to give Cleo one last chance to say goodbye and vow to avenge his death.
