Oz Actor Craig McLachlan, Star Of Soap ‘Neighbours’, Charged With Sex Offences
Australian actor Craig McLachlan has been charged by police with one count of common assault and eight counts of indecent assault.
The former star of hit Oz soaps Neighbours and Home And Away, 53, was charged by a police sex crime unit in Melbourne. A spokesman for McLachlan told local media, “Craig is innocent of these charges which will be vigorously defended.” He is scheduled to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 8 February. Local law enforcement did not elaborate on the details of the allegations.
Oz vet McLachlan is a multiple winner of Australia’s top TV award, the Gold Logie. He most recently had the title role in BBC crime-drama series The Doctor Blake Mysteries, between 2013-17. His stage credits include West End musical Grease and The Rocky Horror Show.
Last year, McLachlan sought damages in a defamation case against Fairfax Media, Oz broadcaster ABC and actress Christie Whelan Browne following multiple allegations in the media of assault and harassment by the actor.
