P1Harmony raises the Oakland Arena roof in its biggest Bay Area show

OAKLAND, Calif. (KRON) — K-pop boy band P1Harmony is back in town for its third Bay Area concert. The six-member group performed for thousands of screaming fans Friday night at Oakland Arena in its “UTOP1A“ tour.

Nothing seems to get louder than screams for a male pop band.

Those screams reached their crescendo when the group — comprised of Keeho, Jiung, Intak, Jongseob, Soul and Theo — appeared on stage and opened with “Street Star.”

The group, primarily its English-speaking members like Keeho, later took a few minutes to speak to the Oakland crowd. They said it was their third Bay Area performance and are happy to be back.

“There was this sudden bond that I had with the Bay Area,” Keeho said, citing that this region was one of the first performances they did post-pandemic. “The love and support y’all have given us has been so overwhelming and great.

“We love the Bay Area!”

About 30 minutes into the show, P1Harmony performed its 2024 hit “Killin’ It.” The group kept the high energy by following it up with its 2022 song “Back Down.”

After the first intermission came solo acts from each member. Theo, playing electric guitar, began this segment with a cover of “Until I Found You” by Stephen Sanchez.

A highlight of the solo performances was when Keeho, donning an Oakland A’s jersey, did a cover of “Kill Bill” as the crowd sang along to SZA’s smash hit. The final soloist was Jiung who turned back the clock with a cover of Justin Bieber’s “Baby.”

Before the final song, the group said it would be back in Oakland, which was met a roaring applause. P1Harmony closed out its set, which lasted about two hours and 40 minutes, with “AYAYA”.

The boy band continues its tour on Sunday at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles.

P1Harmony’s Third Bay Area Concert

The boy band made its debut in 2020 and has gone on three tours since — each with a Bay Area stop. With each tour, the venue has gotten bigger.

In 2022, P1Harmony made its Bay Area debut when it performed at San Jose Civic, which has a capacity of 2,850. In 2023, they did a show at the 3,040-capacity Paramount Theater in Oakland.

On Friday, although all the upper sections of the 19,000-capacity Oakland Arena were blocked off, the rest of the venue was nearly full.

Oakland Arena continues to host more K-pop concerts this summer. Fellow boy band Ateez is scheduled to perform on July 17. IU will come to Oakland Arena on July 30.
