Roseanne Barr shopping a new comedy series
Variety reports that the controversial comedian is looking to return to the airwaves after she was fired from her rebooted sitcom Roseanne due to a racist tweet. She likened Michelle Obama aide Valerie Jarrett to the child of the “Muslim Brotherhood and Planet of the Apes.” The rest of the Roseanne cast and crew continued the show under the new name The Conners.
Barr described the show to Variety as “a cross between The Roseanne Show and The Sopranos” in which a small-town Alabama farmer goes about “saving the United States from drug gangs and China. … They save America with guns, the Bible, petty crime, and alcoholism. It’s kind of like the Coen brothers thing.” She cowrote the show with Allan Stephan, who previously worked on Roseanne and Arli$$.

Jeremy Allen White cast in Netflix miniseries Enigma Variations
Variety exclusively reported that The Bear actor Jeremy Allen White is set to star in and executive produce a miniseries version of André Aciman‘s novel Enigma Variations. Amanda Kate Shuman, whose credits include The Blacklist and The Wheel of Time, is onboard as showrunner. Oliver Hermanus, a BAFTA nominee for his film Living starring Bill Nighy, will direct. White will play Paul, whose loves and encounters with men and women are chronicled over the course of his life.
This follows another famous adaptation of an Aciman novel, the film Call Me by Your Name, which earned four Oscar nominations including Best Picture, Best Actor (Timothée Chalamet), and Best Adapted Screenplay, winning for its script. White has been on quite an awards run of his own for The Bear, winning multiple Emmys, Golden Globes, and SAG Awards for his performance as a Chicago chef reopening his family restaurant.
Jennifer Garner lands Peacock series The Five-Star Weekend
The former Alias actress will star in the new Peacock series based on the novel by Elin Hilderbrand, whose work was also the basis for the hit Netflix limited series The Perfect Couple. Bekah Brunstetter, whose past work includes This Is Us and Maid, is the creator of the series.
Peacock describes The Five-Star Weekend as: “Hollis Shaw, a famed food influencer known for her delicious recipes, impeccable taste, and warm demeanor suffers a devastating loss. Unable to move forward, the death starts to expose the cracks in Hollis’s picture-perfect life — her strained marriage, her complicated relationship with her daughter, and her growing pursuit of validation from her followers. In an effort to overcome grief and find herself again, Hollis gets the idea to host a weekend away at her house on Nantucket with three friends from different stages in her life: her childhood, her twenties, thirties, and one surprise fifth star. Set against a luxurious and coastal backdrop, they will mature in ways they could never imagine as boundaries are pushed and secrets are exposed.”

Lady Gaga’s new album gets a title and release date
The Oscar-winning pop star’s long-awaited followup to 2020’s Chromatica is coming soon, and it finally has a title and release date. Mayhem drops on March 7. In a press release she said the album is like “reassembling a shattered mirror: Even if you can’t put the pieces back together perfectly, you can create something beautiful and whole in its own new way.” Before it arrives Gaga will release a third single from the album on the night of the Grammys, Feb. 2.
The previous two singles from the album were both hits for Gaga. “Disease” thus far has peaked at No. 27 on the Billboard Hot 100, while “Die With a Smile,” her duet with Bruno Mars, has spent multiple weeks at No. 1. “Die With a Smile” also earned her a pair of Grammy nominations: Song of the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. But Gaga kept busy between Chromatica and Mayhem. She contributed to the Top Gun: Maverick soundtrack and earned another Oscar nom for the original song “Hold My Hand.” She also co-starred in the musical sequel Joker: Folie à Deux, for which she released a companion album, Harlequin, last fall.
Bad Bunny still No. 1 on Billboard 200, Mac Miller’s posthumous release comes in at No. 3
Puerto Rican artist Bad Bunny easily held on to the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 albums chart for the tracking week that ended Jan. 23. His Debí Tirar Más Fotos achieved 151,000 equivalent album units based on its combined record sales, track sales, and online streams. As last week, the vast majority of its activity came from streaming. This is the second Bad Bunny album to spend multiple weeks in the top spot, following the impressive 13-week run of Un Verano Sin Ti.
Meanwhile, SZA climbed back up one spot to No. 2 with SOS achieving another 90,000 units. The late rapper Mac Miller, who died in 2018, debuted at No. 3 with his second posthumous album, Balloonerism. It racked up 81,000 units for the week, almost evenly split between album sales and streams. It was recorded back in 2014, “though ultimately GO:OD AM and subsequent albums ended up taking precedence,” explained his family when they announced the album on social media last November. “We believe the project showcases both the breadth of his musical talents and fearlessness as an artist. Given that unofficial versions of the album have circulated online for years and that releasing Balloonerism was something that Malcolm frequently expressed being important to him, we felt it most appropriate to present an official version of the project to the world.”
Rounding out the top five were Kendrick Lamar‘s GNX at No. 4 (59,000 units) and Gracie Abrams‘ The Secret of Us at No. 5 (52,000 units).
