With some help from Adidas, NFL star Patrick Mahomes has had a busy offseason.
In the months since leading the Kansas City Chiefs to another Super Bowl win in February, Adidas — the brand that has backed Mahomes since 2017 — has boosted its efforts to support Mahomes and the things that matter to him. That includes investing in his alma mater, Texas Tech, and releasing more iterations of his signature shoe.
Below are some of the things Adidas and Mahomes have worked on in the NFL offseason.
Fast Cars
In August, with the NFL season a month away, Adidas revealed the newest colorway of Mahomes’ latest signature training shoe, the Mahomes 2 Impact FLX.
Adidas explained in a statement that the latest iteration of the shoe, dubbed “Race Against Time,” was inspired by the quarterback’s love of cars and racing. The eye-catching, predominantly red look with hits of black throughout is the third colorway of the Mahomes 2.
In terms of tech, the shoes feature the brand’s Repetitor foam midsole cushioning, as well as durable rubber outsoles and synthetic uppers that hug the wearer’s foot for lockdown and support.
The Adidas Mahomes 2 Impact FLX “Race Against Time” is available now via Adidas.com and retails for $150.
Red Raiders
At the start of July, Adidas announced it would back Texas Tech, Mahomes’ alma mater, becoming its official footwear, uniform, apparel and accessory partner, entering a 10-year partnership.
From the time of the announcement, the Three Stripes had select licensed Texas Tech apparel available for purchase via Adidas.com/us/texas_tech, as well as at local retailers and online retail partners. Also, Adidas released a co-branded apparel collection with Mahomes with his signature gladiator logo, marking the first time one of its athlete partner’s logos has been featured on official collegiate apparel.
Team Mahomes
Adidas revealed the inaugural cohort of Team Mahomes in late August, a group of six Texas Tech athletes signed to name, image and likeness (NIL) deals. The student-athletes, according to Adidas, will participate in brand marketing campaigns, including those for Mahomes’ signature shoe and apparel line.
The six athletes are Micah Hudson (football), NiJaree Canady (softball), Jasmine Shavers (basketball), Matthew Comegys (golf), Sam Courtright (soccer) and TJ Pompey (baseball).
What’s more, Adidas said at the time of the NIL deal announcement that Mahomes has made a donation to Texas Tech Athletics to help finalize its “largest facility investment in school history,” the south end zone and Womble Football Center project.
