‘Percy Jackson & The Olympians’ Season 2 Casts Tamara Smart As Thalia
Percy Jackson and the Olympians has cast yet another highly anticipated character for Season 2.
Tamara Smart will play Thalia Grace, daughter of Zeus, in the upcoming installment of the Disney+ series. She will be a recurring guest star in Season 2.

“Thalia Grace is one of the most important characters in the Percy Jackson universe, so the right casting was critical. Thalia is a powerful warrior, a fiercely loyal friend, and a demigod rebel with a very ‘punk’ / ‘rage-against-the-machine’ sensibility,” author Rick Riordan said in a statement on Monday. “As soon as we saw Tamara Smart play this role, we knew we had found our daughter of Zeus. She was, no pun intended, electric. Tamara puts the ‘grace’ in Thalia Grace!”
Smart is joining new cast including Daniel Diemer, who is playing Percy’s half brother Tyson, as well as returning series regulars Walker Scobell, Leah Sava Jeffries, Aryan Simhadri, Charlie Bushnell, and Dior Goodjohn.
In Season 1, the late Lance Reddick played the role of the sky god. He died last year, shortly before the final episode aired. Smart previously worked with Reddick on Resident Evil, where she also played his daughter, and she said in a statement that they “always spoke about working together again, so it’s that much more special and important to me to play his daughter once more as Thalia, and to keep his memory alive.”
“I feel his presence all around me and strive to make him proud on this exciting journey,” she added.
The second installment will follow Percy Jackson (Scobell), Annabeth Chase (Jeffries) and Grover Underwood (Simhadri) as they embark on a new adventure based on The Sea of Monsters, the second book of Rick Riordan’s best-selling “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” series, published by Disney Hyperion. Production on Season 2 just began in Vancouver in August.
Prior to Percy’s introduction to Camp Half-Blood, Thalia was one of the Demigods who attended, until she made her last stand to protect her friends at the edge of Camp Half-Blood. Rather than let her die, Zeus transformed her into a tree that anchors the force field that protects camp. Tough and prickly, with a rebel/punk sensibility, Thalia is fiercely loyal to her friends and distrustful of her father’s world.
In the new season, Percy Jackson returns to Camp Half-Blood one year later to find his world turned upside down. His friendship with Annabeth is changing, he learns he has a cyclops for a brother, Grover has gone missing, and camp is under siege from the forces of Kronos. Percy’s journey to set things right will take him off the map and into the deadly Sea of Monsters, where a secret fate awaits the son of Poseidon.
