‘Perfect Couple’ actress Eve Hewson compares dad Bono to Kris Jenner: He’s a ‘stage dad’
We’re keeping up with Eve Hewson’s latest revelation.
The “Perfect Couple” actress recently shared how her dad, Bono, has supported her career in Hollywood.
“He’s such a stage dad,” the 33-year-old said while on Today Monday. “But I’ve called him this before, and he loves it, but he’s the male Kris Jenner.
“He’s all about it, just a huge, huge fan,” Hewson added of the U2 frontman. “He’s always like, ‘So this is what you gotta do: You gotta call up this person, you gotta do this,’ and I’m like, ‘Oh my God, calm down.'”
Today’s Craig Melvin asked if Bono, 64, acts like this even with his daughter being all grown up.
“Oh even now, you can’t stop him,” Hewson replied with a smile.
Bono and his wife, activist Ali Hewson, tied the knot in 1982. In 2022 at the New Yorker Festival, the rocker spoke glowingly about his wife and family life throughout the years.
“It is a grand madness about us,” Bono said at the event, per People. “There’s something about knowing that you’re going against the odds. But I would say if you ask me seriously, friendship can outpace romantic love, sometimes. And friendship is what myself and Ali have. When you have romantic love and friendship, that’s really something special.”
The Irish singer, who also shares Jordan, 35, Elijah, 25, and John, 23, with Ali, noted the couple has remained committed to their marriage despite difficult times.
“Any time either of us got lost, the other would … be there to get the other one home. And I’m so grateful,” he explained. “And 40 years is a powerful number for me. That’s a powerful number for Ali. And it was brilliant when we got to 40, and we went, ‘Let’s not f – – k this up now.'”
Hewson has also spoken publicly about her famous family, joking about not being included in the Hollywood “nepo baby” debate in 2022.
“Actually pretty devastated i’m not featured in the nepo baby article like haven’t they seen my hit show Bad Sisters??? The NERVE,” she tweeted at the time.
Hewson later clarified in follow-up tweets: “For those of you who have just tuned in to my existence, I am asked about my privilege a lot. And I have always been very keen to state how much my father’s name helped me get a start in acting. I am beyond grateful for the opportunities I’ve had in my life … And to the Twitter bots and girlos calling me a spoiled brat .. please don’t forget to have a sense of humour in life. And try to be kind. We all need a little bit more kindness in the world. Much love.”
The “Flora and Son” alum also spilled the tea on why a sibling band isn’t in the cards for her and her brothers, despite their musical genes.
“We have a studio at the end of [my parents’] garden, where [we] usually end up, in the middle of the night, writing stupid songs,” Hewson told Net-a-Porter’s Porter magazine in August. “I actually got kicked out of the family band for being too enthusiastic. One evening, I noticed they were all in the studio together. I came in, I grabbed a bass, I started slapping the bass.”
But her brothers weren’t having any of it. As she put it, “They said, ‘You gotta go. This isn’t our vibe.'”
As for if Bono joined in on the late-night musical shenanigans?
“No,” Hewson admitted. “He was asleep by ten o’clock every night.”
Meanwhile, the “Bad Sisters” actress has continued her rise to stardom, starring in the Netflix hit “The Perfect Couple” alongside Nicole Kidman, Meghann Fahy, Dakota Fanning and Liev Schreiber.
Production on the murder mystery, based on Elin Hilderbrand’s best-selling thriller, took place offseason in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, with Hewson noting that the cast went axe-throwing on the weekends for a very good reason.
“Halfway through [the shoot], everyone started twitching [because] we needed to get out of Cape Cod,” she said. “We knew each other too well by this point. So, the axe-throwing was very therapeutic.”
