Pharrell Williams Brings the Groove for ‘Despicable Me 4’ With New Song ‘Double Life’: Listen

Pharrell Williams is teaming up with the Despicable Me franchise once again — and why not after the success the partnership has enjoyed throughout the Illumination series? Skateboard P gets back into his groovy bag for this one, as he released his “Double Life” single on Friday (June 14), which will land on the Despicable Me 4 soundtrack.

It’s easy to imagine “Double Life” and the catchy chorus cooked up by Pharrell finding its way into Gru’s adventures as he takes on his new nemesis, Maxime Le Mal (Will Ferrell), who has escaped from prison and looks to exact revenge on Gru (once again voiced by Steve Carell).

“It doesn’t matter to you if you get heads or tails/ You just don’t like the flip all the time/ But if you stay then you get to see both sides/ Oh, the thrill of the double life,” P sings.

Fans of the franchise are gearing up for the Chris Renaud-directed fourth installment to hit theaters on July 3 — just in time for the American holiday weekend.

As unlikely as it sounds, Pharrell earned the biggest hit of his career with the inescapable “Happy” in 2014, which originally was part of Despicable Me 2‘s soundtrack before becoming ubiquitous in pop culture. “Happy” topped the Billboard Hot 100 and was the chart’s No. 1 song of the year in 2014. The joyous smash even took home a Grammy for best pop solo performance, and was nominated for an Oscar.

While “Double Life” has a long road ahead if it hopes to match the success of “Happy,” give the Pharrell’s latest Despicable offering a listen below.
