Podcasting’s Comic-Con: Marc Maron, Jon Lovett, Alison Rosen Join L.A. Festival
Podcasting’s top 1 percent — the professional community of advertising networks and distribution platforms — and the fans that fuel the industry will converge at Los Angeles Podcast Festival Oct. 6-8 at the Millenium Biltmore Hotel.
Some of the elite voices behind the mic (and those that rule Apple’s charts) include comedy champ Marc Maron, Jon Lovett (one of the breakouts from the Obama alums “Pod Save America”), T.J. Miller, Bert Kreischer and Alison Rosen, who has built her own lane after leaving “The Adam Carolla Show.”
It’s a lineup tilted towards comedy.
Highlights include a Saturday night of comedy featuring Maron, Jimmy Dore and Erin Foley, and hosted by Graham Elwood. Simon Rust Lamb will lead a panel reflecting on the last six years of the fest.
While live podcasts are not new, a professional track accompanying the conference is a step towards standardizing a lucrative and saturated industry that is still without mature institutions or universal metrics.
Panel topics include “Convergence of Podcasts with Hollywood,” “Podcast Stats and How To Use Them” (programmed by Libsyn, a media hosting service) and a panel on the current multi-channel network era of podcasting that consumed YouTube a few years ago, “What Podcast Networks Do and Don’t Do For You.”
