The infamous Voodoo Doughnut is opening first Arizona location. Here's when to get your fix

Portland-based Voodoo Doughnut is opening its first Arizona store in Tempe on Sept. 7.

Voodoo first opened in 2003 and has grown to 18 stores throughout Oregon, Colorado and Texas. The shop offers hand made doughnuts in different shapes, like classic, bar and cone-shaped to name a few. They get cheeky with the shape of their vegan Cock N' Ball treat, made with a raised yeast doughnut with Bavarian cream filling and chocolate frosting and there are, of course, voodoo doll doughnuts. The Bacon Maple Bar won the title of America's Greatest Doughnut 2022 in the best yeast doughnut category.

"We've been exploring the Arizona market for a while as part of our continuous growth strategy, and we're excited to finally bring our doughnuts to Tempe," said Chris Schultz, CEO of Voodoo Doughnut, in a press release. "We can't wait to become a part of the local community."

The shop features two spinning display cases will present a colorful array of doughnuts. colorful selection of doughnuts, over the top chandeliers, hand-painted murals, a black velvet painting of a spirit channeler who "protects the store."

What's on the menu at Voodoo Doughnut

Voodoo Doughnut offers more than 50 handmade options, including 25 vegan options. Find interesting flavors like:

  • Ring of Fire: Devil’s food cake with cinnamon sugar, cayenne pepper and a dried red chili pepper.

  • Viscous Hibiscus: Raised ring with hibiscus frosting and black sprinkles.

  • Paradise: Raised shell filled with pineapple and coconut Bavarian cream, decorated like a pineapple using vanilla frosting and topped with an umbrella.

  • Memphis Mafia: Fried dough with banana chunks and cinnamon, topped with glaze, chocolate chips, peanuts, and chocolate and peanut butter drizzle.

Prices range from $1 to $4.50 per doughnut and $19 to $28 per dozen.

When is the Voodoo Doughnuts grand opening?

Voodoo Doughnuts opens on Sept. 7 at 8 a.m. A portion of the sales that day will be donated to TempeCommunity Action Agency (TCAA) whose mission is to eliminate poverty and advance equitable communities.
