Potential 'Office' return should take a page from 'NCIS,' says creator Stephen Merchant
The internet has been awash in rumors of a return of the beloved series The Office, and Stephen Merchant, who co-created the original British series of the show, is happy to selfishly fuel the fire.
At the San Diego Comic-Con he joked to Yahoo Entertainment, “I’d like it to happen — for financial reasons.” He went on to say, “It would be amazing if it did,” although he hasn’t heard of any concrete developments. Regardless, Merchant happily pitched his version of an Office 2.0.
“I quite like the idea of there just being … lots of different branches,” he says. “[For example,] you’d have an Office: San Diego.”
Merchant went on to say that any potential Office revival should take a page from another popular series. “Like NCIS!” he explains, “But they’re selling paper in different parts of the country.” (Currently, there exists NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, and NCIS: New Orleans).
Earlier this year, Jenna Fischer (who played Pam in the American spinoff) said she’d be “honored” to return. For his part, John Krasinski (who played Jim) says he hasn’t received a call about being involved in the rumored new version.
In other comeback news, will Jay and Silent Bob be returning?
