Pras Weighs In On Lauryn Hill And US Tour Cancellation, Claims He Has His “Side Of The Story”

Earlier this week, fans of Lauryn Hill and The Fugees received disappointing news that the upcoming 2024 US tour was officially cancelled. After Ms. Hill addressed the announcement on Instagram, blaming “sensationalism and clickbait headlines” for affecting ticket sales, Pras has weighed in by claiming there’s more to the story.

On Friday (Aug. 9), Pras told TMZ Hip Hop, “I saved her reputation for 20 years by not telling my side of the story.” He then addressed the reaction to the announcement, adding, “But oops… cat’s out the bag.”

The “reputation” the Pras mentioned is likely referring to Hill’s track record of being late to shows and issuing extremely last-minute cancellations.

The “To Zion” singer posted a statement to her Instagram about the situation, explaining, “Last year, I faced an injury that necessitated the rescheduling of some of my shows. Regrettably, some media outlet’s penchant for sensationalism and clickbait headlines have seemingly created a narrative that has affected ticket sales for the North American portion of the tour. The trust and faith I have in my intentions and my commitment to my art seem to have been overshadowed by this unfortunate portrayal.”

US ticketholders were notified that their upcoming concert was no longer happening via emails that read, “Your event has been canceled. A refund will be on its way to your account soon.” As of publication, however, all European dates are still “moving forward as planned.”

Fans didn’t hold back their disappointment to the sudden change of plans, as reactions started to pour in on social media. “ITS SO DISHEARTENING BEING A FAN OF LAURYN HILL,” a fan exclaimed on X. “Last October, an hour before the show in Dallas, it was canceled with no warning. I tried again this run even when EVERYONE clowned me saying I was foolish for trying. Canceled AGAIN. I love Lauryn man. But damn yo. DO BETTER.”

Another user added, “Lauryn has consistently disappointed her American audience, so it makes sense that ticket sales were low here. Folks don’t trust her. THEREFORE, what she should have done was kept this part of the tour and proven that she can show up to the shows here.”
