Ever since Queen Elizabeth II passed away last year, Prince William and Kate Middleton have made it very clear that they are doing things their way. As they stepped into their new roles as the Prince and Princess of Wales, they’ve given clues as to how they intend to reign once it’s their turn as king and queen — and it is vastly different from William’s late grandmother, and father, King Charles III.

The couple has created a new role within their household to help manage their staff of 60 people, according to the Daily Mail. Once the person is hired, they will officially be the Chief Execute Officer for the entire crew and will report directly to William and Kate. This move will dramatically change the power dynamic which used to be held by the private secretaries at the palace.

The shift is so considerable that it could create a deluge of changes in not only their household, but also within Charles and Queen Camilla’s staff structure. “This is a revolutionary move,” a royal insider told the media outlet. “They are overthrowing the traditional, hierarchical structure in which staff answer to private secretaries. It has really set the cat among the pigeons. Will the King and Queen have to follow their lead?”

It was Prince Harry who revealed how much power the private secretaries held in his memoir, Spare, nicknaming Elizabeth’s aide, The Bee, William’s staffer, The Fly, and Charles’ right-hand man, The Wasp. “I’d spent my life dealing with courtiers, scores of them. But now I dealt mostly with just three, all middle-aged white men who’d managed to consolidate power through a series of bold Machiavellian maneuvers,” he wrote.
