Prince William’s Reaction to the Kate Middleton Rumors Isn’t Helping the Situation

Prince William probably feels like he’s one of the last men standing in the royal family as health crises and vacations take over the palace. The way the working royals have handled the unprecedented situation has drawn both criticism and internet rumors, particularly when it comes to his wife, Kate Middleton.

The Princess of Wales’ health has been subject to internet scrutiny because of the messaging at the palace. It was perhaps unnecessarily vague as there was probably a better way to communicate the details of her surgery while still giving her the privacy she deserves. Now, it feels like the royal family is in a white-hot spotlight of criticism and people are wondering how Prince William feels about the entire situation. Well, royal fans finally have an answer.

The Prince of Wales’ spokesperson gave a brief statement about his reaction to the rumors surrounding his wife. “His focus is on his work and not on social media,” they told People. Yet that response comes on the heels of Sky News reporting that William has cut his work schedule yet again. According to the outlet, he’s taking two weeks off and won’t return to his royal duties until mid-March. The Prince of Wales has barely been seen other than one brief engagement last week after canceling his appearance at King Constantine of Greece’s memorial due to a “personal matter.”

With King Charles III on a limited schedule, Queen Camilla on vacation, and Kate recovering behind the scenes, William’s whereabouts only raise more concerns. His absence leaves the burden of work to the ambitious Princess Anne, Prince Edward, Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, and the very frail Duke of Gloucester, who is the 79-year-old cousin of the late Queen Elizabeth II. That thin roster doesn’t inspire a lot of confidence in the royal family.

Before the health crises derailed the royal family, Kate and William were expected to ramp up their schedule in 2024 after being painted as “lazy” by some royal critics. “The danger for [the Waleses] is that even though this is almost certainly motivated by prioritizing their home life, it has enabled their critics to paint them as lazy,” Gareth Russell, King Charles’ former butler told GB News. “That reputation can take quite a bit of time to shirk off at the moment. Because of the difficulties the monarchy has had in the last few years, William and Catherine were very much expected to be the star players and to be the star attraction for positive publicity. If they’re not seen as often, there is a risk that they enable their critics to write the story for them.”

Well, that story is being written for them, and it’s not the narrative the royal family wants people to hear. Hopefully, once the critical stages of Charles and Kate’s recoveries pass, Prince William will find his way back to a leadership role.
