Princess Kate’s Parents Carole and Michael Middleton and Sister Pippa Middleton Attend King Charles III’s Coronation: Photos
Showing their support. Princess Kate’s parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, and sister, Pippa Middleton, were in attendance at King Charles III's coronation ceremony on Saturday, May 6.
The couple, who also share son James Middleton, arrived at the Abbey ahead of the royal event. Carole, 68, wore a cobalt blue ensemble while her husband, 73, wore a traditional morning suit. Pippa, 39, meanwhile, opted for a sunny yellow gown for the historical moment.
The Princess of Wales' parents have previously honored the royal family by attending events over the years. In September 2022, the pair paid tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II at her funeral ceremony at Westminster Abbey. Carole and Michael arrived at the church two hours before the service was set to begin alongside Queen Camilla's son, Tom Parker Bowles.
At the time, Carole and Michael honored the longest-reigning sovereign in British history with a special message following her death. "RIP Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II," the duo wrote via their Party Pieces company’s Instagram account. “We are deeply saddened by the death of Her Majesty The Queen. For over 70 years she dedicated her life to service for the people of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth."
Charles' coronation comes six months after his mother's funeral. The former Prince of Wales, 74, originally assumed his place as sovereign with an ascension ceremony immediately after his mother's passing at age 96.
“The death of my beloved mother, Her Majesty The Queen, is a moment of the greatest sadness for me and all members of my family,” he wrote in a statement. “We mourn profoundly the passing of a cherished Sovereign and a much-loved Mother. I know her loss will be deeply felt throughout the country, the Realms and the Commonwealth, and by countless people around the world.”
The royal continued: “During this period of mourning and change, my family and I will be comforted and sustained by our knowledge of respect and deep affection in which The Queen was so widely held.”
That same month, Charles reflected on his mother's legacy during his Ascension Ceremony.
“My mother’s reign was unequaled in its duration, its dedication and its devotion,” he told the Ascension Council. “Even as we grieve, we give thanks for this most faithful life. I am deeply aware of this great inheritance and of the duties and heavy responsibilities of sovereignty which have now passed to me.”
The U.K. native reflected on his plans as monarch, adding, “In this purpose, I know that I shall be upheld by the affection and loyalty of the peoples whose sovereign I have been called upon to be, and in the discharge of these duties, I will be guided by the council of their elected parliaments."
