Production on New Tomb Raider Series Set To Start 2025
A Tomb Raider series was announced for Prime Video in February, which is set to be scripted by the three-time Emmy-winning Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who most recently voiced Blossom in IF starring Ryan Reynolds.
Updates on when the series will be coming and what we might be able to expect have been kept secret, but in a new interview with The Wrap, the head of television at Amazon MGM Studios, Vernon Sanders, gave a first teaser of what's to come for Tomb Raider.
"We are hard at work. We've got great material," Sanders told The Wrap. "Phoebe is really good. We're really excited."
Mentioning the series' timeline, Sanders said, "My guess is we'll spend the rest of this year getting things prepped so that we can start production early next year."
Right now, Waller-Bridge is the only talent attached alongside a host of executive producers, which includes Killing Eve's Jenny Robins.
"We've got to find our Lara Croft," Sanders said. "That global wide search will start sooner rather than later."
It's unlikely that we'll get to see Waller-Bridge's Tomb Raider series before 2026, but there's been a real resurgence in the IP lately, with our first look at the Tomb Raider animated series landing late last year, along with Tomb Raider being the next special Magic: The Gathering expansion.
