Queen Band Member Brian May Shares ‘Scary’ Health Update

Queen's Brian May suffered a health scare recently that caused him to temporarily lose control of his left arm—but luckily, he's back to playing guitar already.

In an Instagram post on Wednesday, September 4, the legendary 77-year-old guitarist revealed that he had a "minor stroke" "about a week ago."

“The good news is that I can play guitar after the events of the last few days,” May said. “I say this because it was in some doubt because that little health hiccup that I mentioned happened about a week ago...what they called it was a minor stroke.”

“All of a sudden, out of the blue, I didn’t have any control of [my left] arm. So it’s a little scary,” he added. The incident led to a "very exciting" journey via ambulance to Frimley Hospital in Surrey, where May said he received the "most fantastic care and attention."

“I didn’t want to say anything at the time because I didn’t want anything surrounding [it]," May continued. "I really don’t want sympathy. Please don’t do that because it’ll clutter up my inbox and I hate that.”

Despite the unfortunate incident, May said he's currently feeling "okay."

“Just doing what I’m told, which is basically nothing. I’m grounded,” he said. “I’m not allowed to go out, I’m not allowed to drive, not allowed to get on the plane. Not allowed to raise the heart rate too high. But I’m good.”

Fans were quick to send May their best wishes for a full recovery.

"We’re all so thankful for your update, Brian. I’m so glad you’re all better now! That’s what matters most," wrote one commenter.

"Dearest Sir Brian, Thanks for updating and showing us your smile. I can’t even imagine exactly what you’re really going through, but I hope you’ll feel better very soon and enjoy playing guitar again ??????Sending LOVE ??," shared a second Instagram user.

This isn't the first time May has dealt with serious health issues. In May 2020, he had a "small" heart attack that left him “very near death" which was diagnosed when he went to the hospital for a ripped muscle he sustained while gardening.

“It’s not something that did me any harm," he said in a video on Instagram. "It was about 40 minutes of pain in the chest and tightness, and that feeling in the arms and sweating,” he said, adding, “I walked out with a heart that’s very strong now, so I think I’m in good shape for some time to come."
