Rachel Zegler ‘Was Terrified’ to Play Live-Action Snow White
Rachel Zegler is set to portray Snow White in Disney’s upcoming live-action adaptation of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. According to the star, getting cast in the role was something that absolutely terrified her.
Speaking to NME, Zegler revealed that stepping into the shoes of “the blueprint” for Disney princesses was a terrifying prospect and something that came with a lot of pressure. Zegler mentioned not only having to learn various dances and act alongside fake animals, but also living up to the iconic status of the character of Snow White.
“I was terrified, terrified, terrified, terrified”, Zegler said. “Because you’re playing the first one. The blueprint of all Disney Princesses comes from 1937’s Snow White. You have so many conversations leading up to it. You’re gonna chop off all your hair and learn how to dance with all these fake animals and things that are not there. It was a lot of pressure.”
Snow White will be based on the studio’s first animated classic Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, which debuted in 1937 and started Disney’s success with animated feature films. It was also inspired by the 1812 German fairy tale written by the Brothers Grimm.
The animated film is often held up as one of the greatest animated movies ever and earned a Best Musical Score award at the 1938 Academy Awards. A year later, Walt Disney was also awarded with an honorary Oscar for the film, and in 1989, the film was one of the first 25 films added to the National Film Registry by the United States Library of Congress after being deemed as being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”
