Rauw Alejandro releases emotional breakup ballad after calling off engagement with Rosalía
Puerto Rican reggaeton star Rauw Alejandro, who recently revealed he called off his engagement to Spanish singer Rosalía, is channeling his heartbreak through music.
Alejandro further addressed his breakup with Rosalía on the emotional ballad "Hayami Hana," released a couple of weeks after he confirmed the couple's split.
With references to his ex's albums "Los ángeles" and "Motomami," Alejandro praised Rosalía's unique talent and alluded to how their busy professional lives impacted their relationship. "The life we live isn’t for everyone: the press, social media, peer pressure, being far from each other is the hardest," Alejandro sings in Spanish. "We work nonstop, but to what end?"
The song's confessional lyrics also saw Alejandro further refute speculation he cheated on Rosalía ("she always had the password to my cellphone"), and he detailed his gratitude for the couple’s relationship.
"I hope that one day we can laugh at the past," Alejandro sings. "There’s no resentment here. This isn’t a complaint. You’ve given me the best days."
Rauw Alejandro, Rosalía call off engagement
Despite their power couple status, Alejandro confirmed his breakup with Rosalía in a lengthy post on social media July 26, revealing the pair called off their engagement "a couple months back."
"During all these years you all have been a part of my professional accomplishments, as well as happy moments that I've lived with my (Rosalía)," he wrote, adding he "never thought" he'd be "in the position to make public declarations over something as private as this."
The "Saturno" singer said his response was motivated by media speculation regarding the cause of the couple's breakup, including "erroneous public allegations" of infidelity by Alejandro.
"Out of respect to her, our families, and a respect for everything we've experienced together, I couldn't keep quiet and continue to see how they try to destroy the truest love story God has allowed me to live," Alejandro continued.
He added: "There are millions of problems that could cause a breakup, but in our case, it wasn't caused by a third party or infidelity."

Rosalía also opened up about her breakup with Alejandro on her Instagram stories July 27, seemingly responding to his comments. "I love, respect and admire (Rauw) very much," she wrote. "(There's) no fact to the lies; we know what we've lived. This moment isn't easy, so thank you to everyone for understanding and respecting."
People magazine was the first to report on the couple's breakup July 25. USA TODAY reached out to Alejandro's representatives for comment. Rosalía's rep declined to comment when reached by USA TODAY.

Rauw Alejandro and Rosalía's love story
Alejandro and Rosalía, who met at the 2019 Latin Grammys, went public with their relationship in September 2021 on TikTok. Prior to their engagement, the singers were having a whirlwind year as a couple. In March, Alejandro and Rosalía released "RR," a three-song EP marking their first joint studio effort. The music video for the EP’s opening track "Beso" — featuring numerous home movie-style clips of the couple spending time together — confirmed their engagement to fans.
Alejandro also joined Rosalía onstage for a surprise performance at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in April, where Rosalía was a featured act. The couple thrilled fans with their raunchy dancing and emotional connection onstage.
Despite having been together for nearly four years, the couple took their time in opening up about their relationship through their music.
"We don't worry too much about public perception, and others that may worry more about perception would have made a collaboration like this much earlier," Rosalía told USA TODAY in a joint interview with her then-fiancé in April. "But it took us three years to prepare this because we weren't rushed, we waited to find the right moment."
Alejandro previously told USA TODAY he has "learned a lot" from his relationship with the "Motomami" singer.
The relationship taught him "how to be a better man, how to be a better partner," Alejandro said. "She's taught me to see things from a different perspective and I've been growing up as a man with her."
Rosalía also gushed about her relationship with Alejandro.
"You're a very instinctive and generous person," Rosalía told Alejandro. "You're a very involved person, and I learn so much from how you navigate the world, how you live, and how you treat people. It's one of the most beautiful things about you, and it's very inspiring, and what else can I say? There are so many things. You have so much love to give to the world."
