Red Hot Chili Peppers Singer Anthony Kiedis Hospitalized, Concert Canceled

UPDATED: Red Hot Chili Peppers singer Anthony Kiedis was hospitalized Saturday night due to complications from intestinal flu, causing the band to cancel a headlining Saturday night set.
Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea revealed the news at popular Los Angeles radio station’s KROQ’s annual Weenie Roast. The band took the stage at the Irvine Meadows Amphitheater and Flea apologized to the crowd at the 16,000-capacity venue, saying that Kiedis had a “medical thing” that he needed to deal with.
“We are devastated about it,” Flea told the audience in videos that were posted to social media. “We live to rock… but unfortunately there’s a medical thing that happened and he needed to deal with it.”
On Sunday, the band issued a statement saying it would also be canceling its upcoming concert for iHeart Radio on May 17 due to Kiedis’ flu, but the singer is expected to make a full recovery.
“Due to Anthony Kiedis’ hospitalization from complications from the intestinal flu on Saturday evening, the Red Hot Chili Peppers regretfully must postpone their upcoming concert for iHeart Radio on May 17th,” reads the statement on the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ website. “They would like to extend their gratitude to the fans for the outpouring of well wishes. Anthony is expected to make a full recovery soon.”
Dummer Chad Smith tweeted regrets about not being able to play the show on Saturday, writing, “NO one’s more disappointed than us that we couldn’t perform tonight. Sending love and a speedy recovery to my brother Anthony.”
Red Hot Chili Peppers were scheduled to start the set at about 10 p.m. PST. Weezer closed out the show.
