Report: Drew McIntyre’s WWE Deal Ending Soon
Drew McIntyre is set to appear at Night 2 of WrestleMania 39 in a Triple Threat match for the WWE Intercontinental Championship. Ahead of the bout, a new report suggests that McIntyre’s contract with WWE could be up soon.
According to a new report from Mike Johnson of PWInsider, sources close to them are noting that McIntyre’s deal with WWE is coming to an end soon, and the two sides have yet to agree on a new deal.
The report notes that McIntyre’s deal is not up “imminently,” but it is in the final year. Johnson also reports that, despite McIntyre’s success in recent years, the two sides “aren’t even close” to a new deal.
After briefly appearing in WWE in 2007-08, McIntyre returned to the company in 2017, and began a dominant run that culminated in a WrestleMania 36 headlining match against Brock Lesnar, which McIntyre won to capture the WWE Championship. Although his reign as champion coincided with the “Thunderdome” era of WWE during the COVID-19 pandemic, he was largely credited with helping keep the company popular throughout the pandemic.
