Report: WWE Loading Up NXT To Boost Ratings, Leverage TV Rights Deal
Recent NXT ratings have made WWE happy about the direction the brand is moving in, according to a recent report.
Speaking to various WWE sources, Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful (via Fightful Select) notes that WWE has been looking to bump up the NXT viewership numbers on Tuesday nights. For this reason, stars like Becky Lynch and the Judgment Day have appeared on the show recently. According to Sapp, the reason is simply due to WWE wanting better numbers to help itself in future deals negotiations.
Sapp wrote that WWE hopes that showing potential bidders that slight changes to NXT can result in big ratings bumps will help them down the line when it comes time to negotiate new television rights deals.
Specifically, WWE was said to be “ecstatic” about the big numbers that the September 12 episode of NXT drew. That show saw Becky Lynch and Tiffany Stratton face off for the NXT Women’s Championship match. The episode scored NXT’s biggest viewership number in three years.
