Rian Johnson, Lena Dunham, Spike Lee join SXSW speaker lineup
South by Southwest has announced the next wave of featured speakers for its annual spring festival, and plenty of Hollywood talent is on the list, including Star Wars: The Last Jedi filmmaker Rian Johnson, She’s Gotta Have It creator Spike Lee, and Girls auteur Lena Dunham.
Running March 9-18 in Austin, Texas, the festival will also welcome actor and writer Ethan Hawke; Westworld stars Evan Rachel Wood, Jeffrey Wright and James Marsden; model Karlie Kloss; celebrity chef José Andrés; Apple exec Eddy Cue; YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki; and activist Chelsea Manning.
“The speakers announced today feature a diverse group of leaders and innovators that make SXSW the foremost destination for creative people,” chief programming officer Hugh Forrest said in a statement.
Previously announced speakers for this year’s gathering include directors Darren Aronofsky and Barry Jenkins, writer Ta-Nehisi Coates, and philanthropist Melinda Gates.
SXSX is organized around 24 tracks divided between Interactive, Film, Music, and Convergence, and panels will cover such wide-ranging subjects as the legacy of 60 Minutes, launching a non-profit teaching coding to young girls, and the ins and outs of producing film and television.
