Rob Lowe ‘Volunteers’ to be Kamala Harris’ Running Mate in Surprise ‘Tonight Show’ Appearance
Vice President Kamala Harris has yet to announce her running mate in the 2024 presidential election—but evidently, Rob Lowe is the man for the job.
On July 25, Lowe made a surprise appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
Jimmy Fallon noted that Harris is less than two weeks from naming her VP candidate pick at the Democratic National Convention, "setting up one of the fastest VP searches in modern history."
The camera then cut to Lowe, who reluctantly declared, "All right. Fine, Jimmy, I'll do it."
"Rob Lowe, what are you doing here?!" the late-night host exclaimed.
"I heard you say it was one of the fastest VP searches in history," the actor, 60, replied. "So I thought if I could alleviate, you know, some of the stress, I would volunteer for the role."
After Fallon pointed out that Harris is probably looking for people "with more governing experience," Lowe countered, "I know how it works, Jimmy, I was in The West Wing."
Fallon stressed that he meant "real" governing experience, prompting Lowe to respond, "Fine, fine you twisted my arm. I will audition for the role."
After requesting the show's band, The Roots, play patriotic music, he delved into his VP "audition."
"America, I'm not like the others. There's no greater outsider than the person that starred in The Outsiders," he said. "I can adapt to any situation. I can be comedic like in Tommy Boy, dramatic like in St. Elmo's Fire, or stop a nuclear threat like in Atomic Train."
He concluded: "So remember, when they go high, we go Lowe—spelled with an 'E.'"
In the comments of a Tonight Show Instagram post of the clip, fans shared their love for Lowe. "I'd vote for him," one wrote, while another echoed, "Rob for VP! ??????."
"Sam Seaborn for the win!!!" someone else commented, referencing his West Wing character.
"Freaking love him!!??," another Instagram user wrote.
